There is no licensed crypto exchange in Albania. That is not a disaster in itself, but it means every platform you use is international and the burden of choosing well sits with you. This ranking of the best crypto exchanges in Albania answers three concrete questions: will the platform accept you as an Albanian resident, how can you pay (card, SEPA, lek P2P), and what does it really cost?
We have no commercial ties to any exchange and no position on this list is for sale. Facts were checked on 1–2 October 2026 on the platforms’ own pages, in ESMA’s register and in the Albanian App Store. Where something could not be verified, we say so. If you have never bought crypto before, start with our main guide to buying crypto in Albania.
01The top 10 crypto exchanges for Albanian residents
The order follows the criteria set out in the methodology below. CEX.IO takes first place as our editor’s pick for card purchases: it is the one platform where we confirmed directly that Albania is not excluded and where a Visa or Mastercard purchase happens without a third-party partner. For active trading with limit orders and low fees, Kraken and Bybit are stronger.
-
CEX.IO
Editor’s pickBest for buying by card
Running since 2013, and Albania is not on its unsupported-countries list, so you can open an account and verify with an Albanian ID. Card purchases with Visa or Mastercard are handled in-house rather than through a partner, and Apple Pay / Google Pay work if your card supports them. Albanian customers are served by the international entity, so local investor protection does not apply.
- Card: 0.49–4.99% + service charge
- New accounts: $1,000/day, $3,000/month (first 3 months)
- Spot: 0.15% maker / 0.25% taker
- No lek; no AMF or MiCA licence
-
Kraken
Low-cost trading, strong security
A US exchange founded in 2011 with one of the cleanest security records in the industry and published proof of reserves. Albania is not on its prohibited list. The group holds a MiCA licence in Ireland, but that covers EEA customers, not you.
- Kraken Pro: 0.25% / 0.40%
- Instant Buy: spread + about 1.5%
- Albanian App Store: 4.9 (165 ratings)
- SEPA for eligible accounts; untested for Albanian IBANs
-
Bybit
Widest product range
Albania is not among its 14 restricted jurisdictions, but you use the global platform, not Bybit EU. It has the second-largest app user base in Albania. After the February 2025 hack (about $1.5bn in ETH), customers were made whole.
- Spot: 0.10% / 0.10%
- Card: via partners
- Albanian App Store: 4.9 (702 ratings)
- MiCA: Bybit EU (Austria), EEA only
-
Binance
Deepest liquidity, most-used app
The most-rated crypto app in the Albanian App Store, with more than 11,000 ratings, a clear sign of real local use. Fees are low, but Binance holds no MiCA licence and its lek P2P market was almost empty on 2 October 2026.
- Spot: 0.10% (0.075% paying in BNB)
- Albanian App Store: 4.9 (11,349 ratings)
- Lek P2P: 0 ads selling USDT
- No MiCA licence
-
OKX
The liveliest lek P2P
The only P2P market with measurable lek liquidity: about five bank-transfer ads on 2 October 2026, at roughly 78 lek per USDT. Spot fees are among the lowest. The group is MiCA-authorised in Malta, for the EEA only.
- Spot: 0.08% / 0.10%
- Lek P2P: ≈5 ads (bank, Paysera)
- Albanian App Store: 4.8 (149 ratings)
- MiCA: OKX Europe (Malta)
-
Bitget
Copy trading and low fees
Albania is not among its restricted jurisdictions. Fees are low and copy trading appeals to many users, but Bitget has no MiCA licence. We rank it with caution: copy trading and leveraged products carry high risk.
- Spot: 0.10% / 0.10%
- Albanian App Store: 4.9 (102 ratings)
- Lek P2P: 0 ads
- No MiCA licence
-
KuCoin
Huge altcoin choice
A very long coin list, and the group gained a MiCA licence in Austria in November 2025. Its history is mixed: a 2020 hack (customers reimbursed) and a 2025 settlement with the US Department of Justice of around $297m.
- Spot: 0.10% / 0.10%
- Albanian App Store: 4.9 (187 ratings)
- Lek P2P: 0 ads
- MiCA: KuCoin EU (Austria)
-
Paybis
Simple card broker into your own wallet
Not an exchange but a purchase service: pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay and the coins go straight to your own wallet. Onramper lists it as covering Albania. Fees are higher, typically around 4.5% plus the network fee.
- Card: about 4.5% + network
- MiCA: Paybis Europe (Latvia), May 2026
- Albanian App Store: 4.8 (25 ratings)
7.4/10paybis.com -
Gate
Large coin list
Around since 2013, with many small-cap coins and a well-rated app in Albania. The group has held a MiCA licence in Malta since September 2025, for the EEA. It is not known to restrict Albania.
- Spot: about 0.10% / 0.10%
- Albanian App Store: 4.9 (120 ratings)
- Card: via partners
7.1/10gate.com -
Coinbase
Listed blue chip, access unverified
Nasdaq-listed, with a MiCA licence in Luxembourg. However, we could not verify whether Coinbase accepts Albanian residents: check the country dropdown at sign-up. Features can be limited outside the EEA.
- Advanced: 0.40% / 0.60%
- Simple buy: often 1.5–4% all-in
- Albanian App Store: 4.3 (93 ratings)
6.8/10coinbase.com
The scores are editorial judgements, not lab measurements. A gap of 0.2–0.3 points doesn’t mean much; what matters is your profile. Someone buying €50 a month by card needs something very different from someone trading the order book every day, which is why we split the platforms by situation further down.
02Crypto exchanges compared side by side

Base-tier spot fees from the platforms’ fee pages and secondary summaries, October 2026. “Partners” = card purchases go through a third-party provider with its own fee.
Read the fee column carefully: those rates apply when you trade on the order book with money already in your account. An “instant” card purchase always costs more. Why, and how to cut the cost, is explained in the fees section below and on our page about buying crypto with a card.
03What actually works for Albanian residents
Most “best crypto exchange” lists are global rankings with the country name swapped in. Our question is narrower: what do you get with an address in Tirana, Durrës or Korçë and a card from an Albanian bank? The matrix shows it, with question marks wherever we could not verify.
The last column surprises people most. Bybit, OKX, Kraken, KuCoin, Gate, Paybis and Coinbase all hold a MiCA licence in an EU member state, but those licences cover only the 30 countries of the European Economic Area. Albania is in neither the EU nor the EEA, so you will normally be onboarded by the group’s global or offshore entity, on different terms and without the protection a customer in Italy or Greece enjoys.
SEPA is a special case. The European Payments Council admitted Albania to the scheme in November 2024 and the Bank of Albania announced the first transaction on 7 October 2025. Technically, a euro transfer from BKT, Intesa or ProCredit to an exchange’s IBAN is now routine. But many platforms offer SEPA only to EEA accounts, so check in the app before sending money. More on our bank transfer and SEPA page.

04Which exchange has the lowest fees?
If you are hunting for the crypto exchange with the lowest fees, the answer depends on how you buy. In spot trading, with money already in your account and an order on the book, the differences are small: OKX starts at 0.08% for maker orders, while Binance, Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin and Gate sit around 0.10%. CEX.IO and Kraken are a little dearer, Coinbase Advanced dearer still.
That is only half the story. For most of our readers the biggest cost is not the trading fee but the route the money takes to reach the exchange. A card purchase costs 0.49% to 4.99% plus a service charge at CEX.IO, about 4.5% at Paybis and often 1.5–4% all-in on Coinbase’s simple buy. If your card is in lek, your bank adds a conversion into euro or dollars, which can be another 1–3%.
In practice the cheapest route is: get euro to the exchange by SEPA (CEX.IO lists SEPA deposits at €2.99), then buy with a limit order on the order book. The fastest route is the card. Choose between them by amount: on €50 the difference is the price of a coffee, on €5,000 it becomes real money. The full speed-and-cost comparison by payment method is on our page about the quickest way to buy crypto.
05How we scored the exchanges
Each platform received a score out of 10 built from five criteria. We set the weights by what matters to someone living in Albania, not to a trader in London.
- Access from Albania (30%). Does the platform exclude Albania on its official country list? We checked CEX.IO and Kraken directly; for the others we relied on lists published by secondary sources. Coinbase loses points because we could not verify it.
- Payment rails (25%). Card in-house or via a partner, SEPA in euro, lek P2P. A direct card purchase scores higher because it involves fewer steps and fewer hidden fees.
- Group regulation and security (20%). A MiCA licence somewhere in the EU (as a signal about the group, not a protection for you), other registrations, proof of reserves, hacks and how customers were treated afterwards, settlements with authorities.
- Fees (15%). Base-tier spot fees and the typical cost of a card purchase.
- Local adoption (10%). Rating and number of ratings in the Albanian App Store on 2 October 2026. Binance with 11,349 ratings and Bybit with 702 show where users really are.
What we did not do: we did not open accounts with Albanian documents or test payments with Albanian bank cards. Sign-up flows are described from the platforms’ own documentation. If your experience differs, write to us and we will update the ranking.

A simple rule for reading the scores: gaps within half a point are about fit, not quality. Pick the platform that matches the way you pay.
06Which exchange to choose for your situation
A student in Tirana with a lek debit card from BKT, an emigrant home for the summer with an Italian account and a business owner moving a few thousand euro have different needs. Here is how we would split them.
One rule applies to all of them: don’t start with futures or leverage. Bybit, Binance, Bitget and OKX offer them prominently, but losses come fast and can exceed what you put in. This page is about plain spot buying.
07Platforms we don’t rank, and why
Some well-known names are missing on purpose. Not because they are bad in themselves, but because for an Albanian resident they don’t work, can’t be verified or carry risks we can’t recommend.
- Crypto.com. Access for Albania is unclear, and its well-known Visa card is offered in 31 European countries, Albania not among them. The app has just 8 ratings in the Albanian App Store, a sign of very limited local use.
- Revolut. Does not open accounts for Albanian residents; its pages only cover sending money to Albania. The MiCA licence of its Cypriot crypto arm is irrelevant to you. Details on our Revolut, Wise and PayPal in Albania page.
- Bitstamp and Bitpanda. Both focus on the EEA, with MiCA licences in Luxembourg and Austria. Bitpanda is not believed to support Albania, and neither showed up in an Albanian App Store search.
- MEXC. Very low fees and many coins, but no MiCA licence and a reputation for light identity checks that has drawn regulatory warnings in other countries.
- HTX (formerly Huobi). No MiCA licence, hot-wallet hacks in 2023 and unverified access for Albania.
- Nexo. Access for Albania could not be verified, and the Nexo Card is issued only in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland.
08Licences, safety and tax
Law No. 66/2020 on financial markets based on distributed ledger technology came into force on 1 September 2020 and provides for exchange licences issued by the AMF, with AKSHI handling the technology side. Yet according to the final impact assessment of 13 May 2026, the AMF has received no applications and licensed no entity. A MiCA-style draft law went to public consultation from November 2025 to January 2026, but we have not found it adopted. The full picture is on is crypto legal in Albania.
What does that mean in practice? If a platform fails or freezes your account, there is no local authority to complain to. Hence three rules: keep on the exchange only what you need for trading, switch on app-based 2FA (not SMS), and move larger amounts to a wallet you control yourself.
And don’t forget tax. Since 1 January 2024, under Law 29/2023, individuals’ gains from crypto-assets are taxed at 15% unless they count as business income. International exchanges don’t withhold anything, so you declare the gain yourself by 31 March. Download the transaction history from every platform you use; you will need it. Frequently asked questions
What is the best crypto exchange in Albania?
There is no single winner. For buying with a Visa or Mastercard our pick is CEX.IO; for low-cost trading with a strong security record, Kraken; for the widest product range, Bybit. None of them is licensed by Albania’s AMF, because as of October 2026 the AMF has licensed no platform under Law 66/2020.
Is any crypto exchange licensed in Albania?
No. The government’s final impact assessment of 13 May 2026 states that the AMF received no applications and licensed no entity under Law 66/2020. Every platform in this ranking is international, and Albanian residents use them on a cross-border basis with no local investor protection.
Which crypto exchange has the lowest fees for Albanian residents?
On spot trading, OKX (0.08% maker / 0.10% taker) and Binance, Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin and Gate (around 0.10%) are cheapest at the base tier. But the trading fee is only part of the bill: if you pay with a lek card, the card fee and your bank’s currency conversion usually cost far more.
Does an exchange’s MiCA licence protect me as an Albanian resident?
No. The MiCA licences held by Bybit EU, OKX Europe, Kraken, KuCoin EU or Coinbase Luxembourg cover customers in the European Economic Area. Albania is in neither the EU nor the EEA, so you are normally onboarded by the group’s global entity. MiCA is a trust signal about the group, not a protection for you.
Can I deposit Albanian lek directly into an exchange?
No major exchange takes direct lek deposits. You either pay by card (your bank converts lek into euro or dollars), send euro by SEPA if the platform offers it to your account, or use P2P. The lek P2P market was very thin on 2 October 2026: about one ad on Binance and about five on OKX.
