Is KuCoin available in Albania? It is, and the people using it here tend to share a profile: they already own some bitcoin and ether and are now looking for a smaller token that Binance or Kraken do not list. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in the Seychelles, KuCoin has one of the widest altcoin selections in the market. It also has a new MiCA entity in Austria and a past run-in with US regulators. All three matter to you, in different ways.

KuCoin is seventh in our ranking for Albania, just behind Bitget. It scores better on group-level licensing and worse on regulatory history. The gap between the two is small and comes down to what you want: altcoins or copy trading.
02Is KuCoin available in Albania?
Albania is not known to be on KuCoin’s restricted list, according to the secondary sources we consulted. The app is listed in the Albanian App Store with a 4.88 rating from 187 reviews (2 October 2026), more than Kraken or Bitget, which points to a genuine local user base. We did not, however, find an official KuCoin page that names Albania directly, so read the restricted-countries section of the terms on kucoin.com before you deposit.
You register with an Albanian ID card or passport. Bear in mind that “not restricted” does not mean every product is open to you: some features, such as the KuCard, are EEA-only.
03KuCoin EU and MiCA: why the Austrian licence doesn’t reach you
On 27 November 2025 KuCoin EU Exchange GmbH was authorised under MiCA by Austria’s Financial Market Authority (FMA). We found it in the ESMA register downloaded on 2 October 2026. A small footnote: one well-known aggregator, casptracker, wrongly shows it as German; the official register says Austria.
For an Albanian resident that licence has limited value. MiCA lets a firm passport its services across the 30 countries of the European Economic Area and nowhere else. Albania is not part of it, so you sign up to KuCoin’s global platform rather than KuCoin EU, and MiCA’s consumer protections do not apply to you.
04Regulatory and security history
Any honest KuCoin review has to cover this part. Here are the main events, according to the sources we consulted:
- 2017Launch
KuCoin starts operating, later headquartered in the Seychelles.
- 2020Hack
The exchange is hacked; secondary sources report that customers were reimbursed.
- 2025US DOJ settlement
KuCoin pays about $297 million and exits the US market.
- 27 Nov 2025MiCA licence in Austria
KuCoin EU Exchange GmbH authorised by the FMA. EEA customers only.
- 2 Oct 2026Lek P2P
Our public check: zero USDT/ALL ads in either direction.
How should you read this? The 2020 hack and the reimbursement show that hacking risk is real even at large exchanges, and also that KuCoin covered the losses. The US settlement and exit do not touch your account directly, but they say something about how the exchange approached regulation in the past. The 2025 Austrian licence is a step in the other direction. We are not passing moral judgement; we simply think you should have these facts in front of you.
05The altcoin list: the main reason to use KuCoin
Why do people pick KuCoin? Almost always for coin choice. It is regularly cited among the exchanges with the most altcoins, including small tokens that have not yet reached more conservative venues such as Kraken. For an experienced trader that is a real advantage.
But lots of small tokens also means lots of risk. Small-cap tokens have thin liquidity, prices that swing by tens of per cent in a day and, in some cases, projects that simply disappear. A KuCoin listing is not a verdict on a project’s quality. We do not recommend any coin and make no price predictions; if you are new to this, start with our beginner’s guide.

06Paying in from Albania
KuCoin does not accept lek. There are four realistic ways to fund it from Albania, and only two of them work well today:
Plenty of users in Albania do it like this: buy USDT or bitcoin by card on another platform, then send it to KuCoin to buy the altcoin they want. That adds a network fee but avoids the more expensive partner card purchase. Mind the network: send USDT on TRC20 to an address that expects ERC20 and the funds can be lost. Read USDT in Albania before your first transfer.
As for SEPA, Albania has been in the scheme since October 2025, but we have no confirmation that KuCoin’s global platform accepts euros from an Albanian IBAN. See our bank transfer and SEPA guide.
07KuCoin fees
The base spot fee is 0.10% maker and 0.10% taker according to secondary sources, falling at higher monthly volumes. That matches Bybit and Bitget and undercuts Kraken Pro (0.25%/0.40%). On €300 of trading the fee is €0.30. Card purchases through partners cost noticeably more, and crypto withdrawals carry a network fee that varies by coin and network.
With small altcoins the real cost is often the spread rather than the fee: when the order book is thin you can end up paying several per cent above the “real” price. Use limit orders, not market orders, on low-liquidity tokens. And log every trade: individuals’ crypto gains are taxed at 15% under Law No. 29/2023, self-declared by 31 March. See crypto tax in Albania.
08The app and account security
With 187 ratings averaging 4.88 in the Albanian App Store, KuCoin has more visible users in Albania than Kraken (165) or Bitget (102), but far fewer than Binance (over 11,000) or Bybit (702). The app also offers advanced leveraged products that are not for everyone; if you are starting out, stay with spot trading.
For account security: switch on 2FA with an authenticator app, use every extra protection the account offers for orders and withdrawals, and ignore any “support” message asking for codes. Crypto you are not trading belongs in a wallet you control yourself. For the scams most often aimed at Albanians, read crypto scams in Albania.
09How to open a KuCoin account
With your documents ready, it usually takes a few minutes:
- Go to kucoin.com or download the official app. Check the address and the publisher name; lookalike sites are common.
- Register with an email or phone number and a unique password.
- Choose Albania and verify your identity with your ID card or passport and a selfie. Use your real details.
- Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app and keep the backup codes offline.
- Fund it with a small amount, by card or crypto transfer, and test a small withdrawal before moving anything larger.
10Who KuCoin suits, and our verdict
KuCoin is worth it for experienced users chasing hard-to-find altcoins, with 0.10% fees and a well-rated app in Albania. The group’s new MiCA licence is a plus but does not cover you; the US settlement, an empty lek P2P market and no KuCard for Albania keep it behind the top of our ranking.
Strengths
- One of the widest altcoin lists on the market
- Spot 0.10% / 0.10%, with volume discounts
- Group holds MiCA authorisation in Austria since 27 Nov 2025
- App rated 4.88 from 187 ratings in Albania
Weaknesses
- MiCA does not cover Albanian residents; no AMF licence
- US DOJ settlement (2025) and a hack (2020)
- Lek P2P had zero ads; the lek is not supported
- KuCard is EEA-only
- Small altcoins carry thin liquidity and high risk
11KuCoin alternatives
If you want the same fees with more products and a bigger Albanian user base, look at Bybit. For copy trading, Bitget is the specialist, though without MiCA. For security and proof of reserves, Kraken remains our number two. For a first card purchase, read our CEX.IO review. All ten platforms are compared on the best crypto exchanges in Albania.
Frequently asked questions
Is KuCoin available in Albania?
Yes, as far as secondary sources show: Albania is not among the countries KuCoin restricts, and the app is listed in the Albanian App Store with a 4.88 rating from 187 reviews (October 2026). Albanian residents are served by KuCoin’s global platform, not by KuCoin EU. Check the restricted-countries clause in the terms before depositing.
Does KuCoin EU’s Austrian MiCA licence protect me?
No. KuCoin EU Exchange GmbH was authorised by Austria’s FMA on 27 November 2025, but MiCA authorisation covers customers in the European Economic Area only. Albania is outside the EEA. There is no AMF licence to fall back on either, because AMF has licensed no crypto platform.
What regulatory problems has KuCoin had?
In 2025 KuCoin reached a settlement with the US Department of Justice of about $297 million and left the US market. Earlier, in 2020, the exchange was hacked; customers were reimbursed afterwards. Both facts belong in any honest risk assessment of the platform.
What are KuCoin’s trading fees?
The base spot fee is 0.10% maker and 0.10% taker according to secondary sources, with discounts at higher volumes. Card purchases go through payment partners and cost more; the fee is shown before you confirm. If you pay with a lek card, your bank adds currency conversion on top.
Can I get a KuCard in Albania?
No. KuCard, KuCoin’s debit card, launched for the EEA and is not issued to Albanian residents, according to secondary sources. Most big-brand crypto cards are EEA-only.
